Dear Sir/Madam,

I, Vishal Verma, thank you for allowing me to share my statement of purpose for visiting New Zealand concerning acquiring further education in logistics and supply chain. I am a keen learner who has firmly decided to pursue a serious career in supply chain and have also tested the waters to equip myself with the latest advancements in this domain.  As I anticipate a huge competition and the need for an upgrade in my existing qualifications, I have decided to pursue a Master of Logistics and Supply Chain Management from the Auckland University of Technology (AUT). I am also glad to share that I have received admission for the September 2022 intake I, hereby share my reasons to visit Auckland in detail while also discussing my strong family and professional ties back home.

Family background

I belong to a well-to-do family in India where I live with my parents and an elder brother. My father is an ex-government employee, who is now working in the private sector and my mother is a homemaker. My brother is a talented young man who got a huge package from an MNC as he went for campus placement. Since we all have been living together, we have nurtured a strong family bond amongst us. Being the closest to my family, I am particularly inclined to care for my parents as they age. Moreover, I have to come back to India and take care of our accumulated wealth so far. We have certain movable and immovable assets that I need to take care of. Choosing a career in my country, where I can also care for my family members, would give me a sense of fulfillment. Because of my emotional attachment to my family, I could not imagine living without them. I have no family ties in New Zealand and I will be returning to my native country immediately after concluding my study program.

Academic background

As far as my education is concerned, I completed my secondary school with 77.6% in 2017 and senior secondary school with 82.33% in 2019 from Delhi Public School. Progressing further in my academics, I developed a keen interest in journalism and mass communication as I had a firm hold on public speaking during my senior school and decided to pursue a Bachelor of Journalism and Mass Communication as a part of my graduation, which I completed in 2022 from Delhi University. I obtained a total aggregate percentage of 87% in graduation. However, as I began my internship at Radish Digital Media Solution, I worked with a client with having supply chain and logistics business. Through them, I began to learn about this upcoming field in India and its immense possibilities. I became awestruck with this domain, and my interest transitioned from the previously studied subjects to supply chain entirely. I also networked with this client and looked for possible opportunities for myself. However, being naïve and not having any specific education in this arena, I have been guided to pursue a specialization first to mark my interest and show my willingness to work dedicatedly in this branch. As I consider the advice of my mentor valuable, I have decided to stick to the right path and transition my career in a step-by-step manner, utilizing the power of education. Hence, I aim to take a Logistics and Supply Chain Management course at AUT.

English Language Proficiency

As I am fully aware of the language eligibility criteria, I have taken the IELTS examination beforehand. I am glad to share that I have secured an overall score of 7.0 securing 8.5 in Listening, 6.0 in Speaking, 6.5 in Writing, 7.5 in Reading.

Why New Zealand?

I am extremely impressed with New Zealand’s pedagogy. The commitment of New Zealand to provide exceptional learning through its well-defined curriculum and study standards is beyond excellence. Moreover, the country is known for housing several institutions that are likely to become the most influential educational hub spots for students from all over the world. Additionally, the country has maintained a warm and welcoming culture strictly tackling crime or violence. I am sure by studying in this country, I will draw valuable lessons while also extracting international exposure to perform better in my surroundings. Hence, I am delighted to have chosen to study in New Zealand.

Why Supply Chain Management?

Since the COVID-19 pandemic is rooted in our society, the opportunity for the logistics and supply chain industry has manifolded. However, this could be treated as a blessing in disguise, I am more focused on the positive outcomes for professionals. Hence, I aspire to become one of them and enter the logistics industry with a full-fledged qualification as also discussed with my mentor. I want to make a strong career in this domain, being impressed with the infinite opportunities. Hence, I am willing to pursue this study program. I am determined to elevate my professional trajectory and I am sure nothing better than a robust course could help me. With its vast landscape, I am confident to clear all basic understanding about procurement and shipment while also touching base with subjects in global transportation and industry specifics. The study program at AUT is broad and full of practical applications. Hence, I am sure that it will be the most beneficial bet of my life.

Why not India or any other country?

Studying in India isn’t in sync with my preferences, primarily due to the dearth of hands-on practical learning, which is crucial for a specialized field like Applied Finance. While India boasts reputable institutions, the available courses and their content simply don’t align with my career goals. I firmly believe that, at this stage, international exposure is imperative to augment my academic prowess and bolster my profile. In my pursuit of study options in English-speaking countries, including the USA, UK, Australia, and Canada, New Zealand emerged as the most fitting choice. New Zealand’s allure lies in its cost-effectiveness for studying abroad and the opportunity it affords to interact with a diverse student community. Hence, my strong inclination leans towards pursuing my studies in New Zealand, as it offers the perfect blend of practical learning, global exposure, and a multicultural academic environment to nurture my educational aspirations.

Why Auckland University of Technology?

Auckland University of Technology (AUT) is one of the best examples of a public university that not only excels locally but also on the global stage, boasting a prestigious five-star rating from QSAUT is committed to offering inclusivity and has a welcoming culture for students from diverse nations. It has a stronghold on research and innovation makes it very impressive to me. Also, the university has partnered with 500 global universities to mark its excellence in the field of education. In my quest to find the perfect academic fit, I meticulously compared AUT to other prominent public universities like Victoria University of Wellington, the University of Otago, Massey University, and the University of Auckland. Each time, AUT emerged as the institution that best aligns with my educational aspirations. Its unique blend of excellence, inclusivity, and global reach has left me greatly inspired to choose AUT above all others.

Future plans

After completing my education in NZ, I wish to reunite with my motherland because we have boundless opportunities to excel in this field. India has a large population so the requirement for managing the logistics and supply chain at all levels is paramount. We have great companies in India, where I aim to join as a Procurement Manager or Lead Supply Chain analyst. Eventually, in the long term, I aim to grow my career from a supervisory role to the head of the department, this being my dream career opportunity.

Conclusion

I am extremely grateful as my father has a stable financial background. He has generously agreed to support my education and living expenses in Auckland while I have also procured an education loan of NZD 50789 and a personal loan of NZD 35976. My father has assured me that he will support me with his PF amount and that I don’t need to worry about funds. Notably, we have an annual income of NZD 78,917 and we have decent movable and immovable assets in India which gives my father this level of confidence. I have provided all necessary documents for your review, and I sincerely appreciate your assistance in processing my visa request. Thank you in advance.

Sincerely,

Vishal Verma
